Property extensions and remodelling by Sean Tye

Previous projects

Tranctor House

Garage, workshop and potting shed.

Client's requirements – To design a scheme that blended into the local vernacular giving visual interest and variety without being a solid block of buildings. The workshop plan was designed to house all equipment from a nearby carpentry shop.

Design process – Briefing to understand the client’s specific requirements with close attention to dimensional detail and the choice of traditionally crafted materials.

Proposed solution – Plans and sections were developed for client approval including specific details relating to master planning. The garage included a pit design so the owner could service his classic car.

Calculation of the proposed building levels had to take into account the sloping site and a construction method statement was required as the project was within 20 metres of a natural water course.

Westbrook House

Remodelling of an entire Grade II Listed medieval house to create a luxury weekend residence.

Client's requirements – To re-design the internal layout to flow from space to space. Create a 'wow' space as the main focus accommodating a contemporary country kitchen.

Design process – The buildings required a significant measured survey as all rooms were irregular and out of square. Careful recording of structural and historic elements ensured that the design was thoroughly considered.

Proposed solution – All internal and external material changes were discussed with the local authority conservation officer to ensure a considered approach that protected the building's critical elements.

Redbury House

Garden room extension.

Client's requirements – A space for an artist that provides a naturally light and uplifting space with visual interest.

Design process – The site for the extension was 800mm higher than the existing house which was exploited by incorporating an internal level change up a number of steps to a vaulted open plan room.

Proposed solution – A vaulted ceiling space with an oak truss showcase traditional design while the wood burning stove adds a contemporary flavour.

Testimonials

'Mr Sean Tye has now completed two significant domestic architectural design projects for me over the last 5 years.

The first was a new build in a conservation area of a pair of buildings in a vernacular style to be used as a workshop and garage.

The second was a complex loft conversion to an Oak framed house within a conservation area.

Always remaining within the brief he never failed to produce imaginative yet practical and affordable designs with many unique and interesting enhancing features.

Throughout both projects I was very impressed by his technical expertise, both as a draftsman and also with his regulatory and procedural knowledge of building control and local planning.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Sean Tye to any would-be client looking for a high quality, reliable yet affordable local architect.'

Mr S Turner, Durrington

'Bill and I are delighted with the new extension and want to thank you for all your hard work.

You took the time to ensure you understood what it was we wanted and how we intended to use the new room and were endlessly patient when it came to redoing plans to take in changes.

We particularly appreciated too how clear you were on how suggested changes impacted on budget with the result that the project came in on target - very important to us.

The final design with the vaulted roof and the exposed beams you suggested really gave the extension character as did the external chimney for the outside appearance.

The end result blended so well with the existing house and we couldn't be more pleased.'
